I noticed that in Hewlett-Packard’s Q2 2010 Investor Newsletter, commenting on completing their acquisition of 3com, the company emphasized two points about engagement in China:
- “R&D design center with ~2,400 highly skilled engineers in China to fuel continued innovation
- Proven enterprise deployments…with over 300 of the top 500 enterprises in China”
So, a significant chunk of HP’s innovation and engineering will be coming from China, and customers in the Chinese markets may have real importance in HP’s eyes.
It will be interesting to see how successful the company is in leveraging these aspects of its strategy.
